For the Family

March 22, 2010

This post is for the extended family. Unless you are so bored that you’d rather watch my three year old do a page in his activity book!

Monkey got a couple of activity books for Christmas (or his birthday…I can’t remember, they both blend together). I put them away on a shelf and forgot about them until a couple of weeks ago. He was THRILLED to have them! I’ve never seen a kid so excited about doing school work before. (Please don’t tell him this…he thinks they are games). Anyhow, I was really surprised how well he did and for how long! He finished about a third of the book on his first sitting. So, here ya go: Monkey counting and practicing some pencil control.

LOVE the “test taking” strategies he has at such a young age. This is an advanced logic skill for Monkey. “Where is the seven? That must be wrong.”

And good association. “Maybe we can have hotdogs.” You said tomorrow. “Then maybe you can bake sprinkled cookies” and he circled it on the paper to demonstrate. That was an impressive move.

He is using both parts of his brain (creative and logic) to come up with that, and he is using his verbal, small motor skills, reasoning skills, counting skills, negotiation skills, and creativity. ALL at the same time. You are doing REALLY well with him!

And from one simple workbook! Great job, Mom!

To follow up: We did indeed have hot dogs for lunch the next day and made M&M cookies the day after that. =) There are some things that just never get forgotten!

You encourage me so much. What a talent God has given you here!
