The Olympics Are Over?

March 2, 2010

The Olympics may have ended over in Canada, but here in our house they are still going strong. I let my own chores fall through the cracks over the last two weeks and started a marathon of laundry yesterday.  Seven loads yesterday and two more this morning. One more this afternoon and I should be caught up. With the laundry, that is. 😉

Throughout the Olympics, Monkey has pretended to compete in all sorts of events. He puts on his slippery socks and “ice skates” around the kitchen spinning and jumping along the way.The event he competes in the most seems to be some sort of snowboard cross. He loves to pretend to start out of the gate with a “beep!” He even turns his body sideways and puts his arms out as he proceeds to run down the hall. Repeat twenty times.

One night he even got Bruiser involved in one of his pretend Olympic events.

This would be ski jumping, of course.

Let’s just say that one of them was a bit better at the “jumping” part.

I won’t mention any names, though. Lest anyone’s feelings get hurt… =)

Perhaps the most unexpected favorite was curling. These kids just got so excited to hear the teams screaming “Hard! Hard!” They would start screaming back at the t.v. and then cheer wildly whenever rocks would crash. The crashing was definitely their favorite part.

Last night during our weekly “family fun night” we decided to give curling a try. Our own version of curling, that is. It’s quite simple.

All you need are some small bowls,

a smooth surfaced hallway, a sticker for the “button,”

and perhaps a ruler for those close calls.

Last night, after we left your house, we went shopping. Everywhere we went squirt was doing the “ski jump” while holding our hands.

That’s right. Gotta train ’em young if they’re going to make it!

I spotted a naked Olympian! In true Greek form!
